New Car Protection
Protect Your Car After Buying
The first month sets the baseline for everything that follows. Here is a plan that works for a new car or a used one.

Whether the car is brand new or ten years old, the first month is when you establish what condition it is actually in and how you are going to keep it. Get that right and everything afterwards is maintenance rather than rescue.
First Day, Document the Condition
Photograph the car in daylight from every angle, including wheels, sills and the boot. If anything is already marked, you now have a record of when it happened, which matters for both dealer conversations and insurance.
Remove Urgent Contamination, but Do Not Scrub
Bird droppings, sap and bug residue come off now. Soften them first and lift them off. Do not attack them dry with a towel, because that turns a chemical problem into a scratch problem.
Get a Condition Based First Detail
A full detail at the start gives you a known baseline. On a used car this is genuinely revealing: decontamination often pulls a lot out of the paint, and the interior usually looks quite different once it has been worked through properly rather than wiped over.
Decide What You Are Protecting Against
Everyday Contamination and Washing Effort
This is what a ceramic coating is for. Easier washing, better resistance to UV, bird droppings and road grime, and a finish held in place for years.
Stone Chips and Abrasion
Paint protection film is the only real answer, and it is a separate trade. A coating will not do this, and you should be wary of anyone suggesting it will.
Interior Spills and Wear
If the car carries kids, dogs or work gear, interior protection is worth more to you than another exterior product. Ceramic Platinum includes a full interior ceramic coating for exactly that reason.
Should You Coat It Immediately
On a new car, sooner is better because the paint is at its best. On a used car, get it inspected first. If the clear coat is sound, correction and coating together will transform it. If it is failing, you need to know that before you spend anything.
One exception worth knowing: if any panel has been resprayed recently, fresh paint needs time to fully cure before it is coated. Mention it when you enquire.
Set Up a Wash Plan You Will Actually Follow
- Two buckets with grit guards, a clean mitt and a pH neutral shampoo
- A soft drying towel that lives somewhere clean
- A quick detailer in the boot for bird droppings
- A commitment to never use an automatic brush wash again
A Simple First Month Plan
- 01Week one, document the condition and remove anything urgent
- 02Week two, book a full detail so you can see what you actually have
- 03Week three, decide on protection based on where the car lives and how long you are keeping it
- 04Week four, get your wash kit sorted and set the rhythm
Start With a Clear Baseline
Send through the car and what you plan to do with it. You will get a straight recommendation on where the money is best spent first, which is not always the most expensive option on the list.
