Paint Correction Pakenham

Most paint that looks dull is not worn out, it is scratched. Multi stage machine correction cuts those defects back under inspection light so the finish reflects cleanly again, and so anything applied afterwards is protecting clarity rather than sealing in damage.

How Correction Is Booked

Correction is quoted on the paint in front of us, not from a menu. Two cars the same age can need very different work, so the number of stages is set after the finish is inspected under light. There are two ways it gets booked.

Most Booked01

Multi Stage Correction

Correction booked on its own. Cutting and refining stages worked under inspection light to remove swirls, scratches and surface defects properly.

Correction Before Coating

The same correction work carried out as the preparation stage of a ceramic coating package, so the finish being protected is the corrected one.

  • Full paint preparation and decontamination
  • Correction matched to the coating tier booked

Stage By Stage

What Is Included In Paint Correction

Correction is a sequence, and skipping a step in it shows up in the finish. This is the run that every corrected car goes through at Pakenham.

  • Wash And Decontamination Wash

Loose dirt removed first, then a decontamination wash so nothing is dragged across the paint later.

  • Clay And Chemical Decontamination

Bonded contamination, fallout and rail dust pulled out of the surface so the pad works on paint, not grit.

  • Paint Inspection Under Light

The finish read under direct light to see what is actually there before choosing a pad and compound combination.

  • Cutting Stage

The defects taken back. How far this goes depends on the paint and what it can safely give up.

  • Refining Stage

The cut refined out so the panel finishes clear rather than hazed, which is where the depth comes from.

  • Panel Wipe Down And Final Check

Oils removed and the work checked back under light, so what you see is the corrected finish and not filler.

The Approach

Why Correct Your Paint At Detail 2 Drive

Correction is the part of detailing with the least room for shortcuts. Filling defects with a glaze looks identical on the day and washes out in a month. Cutting them out properly takes longer, needs the right light to see what you are doing, and cannot be rushed in a driveway.

Working inside a fixed studio means the light does not change, the car is not being covered in fresh dust while it is open, and the same standard applies to a Falcon as to a Huracan. Jesse does the correction work personally, and has been doing it for over ten years.

Paint is a finite resource. You will be told what your car's finish can safely take, and where the honest stopping point is, rather than being sold the deepest cut on the list.

What Correction Actually Removes

Drag across the panel to see the difference between paint carrying swirl marks and the same paint after machine correction.

Before CorrectionAfter Correction

Swirl marks scatter reflected light in every direction, which is why paint carrying them looks flat even when it is clean. Correction cuts them out so the reflection comes back sharp.
