Paint Correction
Paint Correction vs Polishing
Every correction involves polishing. Not every polish is a correction.

Polishing is the technique. Correction is the process that technique is used inside, with the paint inspected first, a target set, and the result checked back under light. Every correction involves polishing. Plenty of polishing is not correction.
What Happens During Machine Polishing
An abrasive compound is worked across the clear coat with a machine and a pad. It levels the surface very slightly, which removes shallow defects and leaves the panel reflecting more cleanly. How much it removes depends on the pad, the compound, the speed and the operator.
What Makes It Correction
- The paint is decontaminated before anything abrasive touches it
- The finish is inspected under direct light before a combination is chosen
- A test section establishes how this paint actually responds
- Cutting and refining stages are worked deliberately rather than in one pass
- The result is checked back under light with the oils removed
Does Polishing Remove Scratches
It removes scratches that sit within the clear coat. It cannot remove anything that has gone through it. The rough test is your fingernail: if it catches in the scratch, polishing will improve how it looks but will not make it disappear.
The Problem With Glazes and Fillers
Some products fill defects rather than remove them. The car looks flawless on collection day and marked again a few weeks later once the filler washes out. If you have had that experience, that is what happened.
It is also why the panel wipe down before a coating matters. Removing the oils shows the real finish, so what goes under the coating is corrected paint rather than a temporarily filled one.
Which One Does a Daily Driver Need
It depends on what is bothering you. If the car just looks tired and a bit flat, a single well judged stage often transforms it. If it is covered in swirls under sunlight and you want them gone, that is multi stage correction.
Which Should Come Before a Coating
Correction, without question. A ceramic coating is clear and it locks in whatever is underneath it for years. Coating over a filled finish is the most expensive way to end up disappointed.
Does Polishing Damage Paint
Done properly, no. Done carelessly it can burn through an edge, leave holograms, or take far more clear coat than it needed to. That is the argument for inspecting first and testing a section rather than starting at the most aggressive combination.
How to Compare Quotes
Ask what decontamination is included, how many stages are planned, whether a test section is done, and how the result is inspected. Those answers explain the price gap far better than the words on the package. See how correction is booked here.
