Is Ceramic Coating Worth It for a New Car

New paint is the easiest paint to protect. It is also rarely as flawless as people assume.

Coating a new car is worth it when you intend to keep it for a few years and you want the finish to still look like this in year three. It is not worth it if you were told it stops stone chips, because it does not.

What a Coating Adds to New Paint

New paint is at its best on delivery day, so a coating applied now is locking in a genuinely good finish rather than the best version of a compromised one. Washing gets easier, chemical resistance improves, and the gloss the car left the factory with is held rather than slowly lost.

What It Will Not Do

  • Prevent stone chips on the front bar, bonnet or mirrors
  • Stop car park damage or trolley marks
  • Make the paint immune to poor washing technique
  • Remove the need to wash the car

Does a Brand New Car Need Correction First

More often than people expect. Cars arrive with transport film residue, delivery marks and dealer wash swirls, and a dark colour under a light rig will show all of it. Since a coating is clear, anything left in the paint stays visible underneath it for the life of the coating.

This is why full paint preparation and correction runs on every car at Detail 2 Drive before a coating goes on, including brand new ones. There is no version of the job where the paint is assumed to be fine.

Is Dealership Paint Protection the Same Thing

It varies enormously and it is worth reading exactly what you signed. What is being applied, over what preparation, by whom, and what the written terms actually cover are the questions to ask. A product applied over unprepared delivery paint has the same problem as any other coating applied over unprepared paint.

How Soon Should a New Car Be Coated

Sooner is better, because the paint has picked up the least contamination and the least wash damage. That said, there is no deadline. A car that is a few months old is still an easy prospect compared to one that has been through two years of automatic washes.

Which Tier Suits a New Car

Ceramic Shield covers the exterior paint. Ceramic Deluxe adds the wheels and the glass, which is the one most new car owners land on because wheels are where brake dust does its work. Ceramic Platinum adds a full interior coating, which is worth considering on a light coloured cabin or a family car. All three carry the same 8 year warranty backed system, and all three are on the ceramic coating page.

Maintaining It Afterwards

Same routine as any coated car: safe wash every week or two, pH neutral shampoo, no brush washes. See how to wash a ceramic coated car for the full method, or get a quote with your delivery date in the note.
