Five Ceramic Coating Myths
Most disappointment with coatings traces back to one of these five claims.

Almost every unhappy coating customer was told something in this list. None of it is true, and none of it needs to be true for a coating to be worth the money.
Myth One, It Makes a Car Scratch Proof
It does not. A coating is thin and hard, not thick and impact absorbing. It will not stop stone chips, key marks, trolleys or wash brushes. What it will do is make the car easier to wash safely, which prevents a lot of the marks people put in themselves. More detail in does ceramic coating prevent scratches.
Myth Two, You Never Have to Wash It Again
Coated cars still get dirty. They just let go of the dirt more easily. Skip washing for months and contamination bonds on top of the coating, at which point people conclude the coating has failed when it is simply buried.
Myth Three, It Removes Swirls and Scratches
A coating is clear. It goes over the paint, so anything in the paint stays visible through it. Removing defects is machine work done before the coating goes on, and that is exactly why the preparation process is most of the job.
Myth Four, Every Coating Lasts Exactly What the Label Says
Durability depends on preparation, application conditions, where the car lives and how it is washed. A warranty is a meaningful commitment and it is worth having in writing, but it is not a guarantee that nothing changes across the term.
Myth Five, All Coatings Are Basically the Same
Ceramic is a category, not a specification. Products differ in chemistry, application method, cure requirements and what the manufacturer stands behind. Who applied it and what they applied it over matters at least as much as which bottle it came from.
Bonus, More Layers Always Means Better
Layering has to follow the system's own instructions. More product outside those instructions can cause high spots and uneven curing rather than more protection.
What to Expect Instead
- Washing that takes noticeably less effort every single time
- Better resistance to bird droppings, bugs, UV and road grime
- A corrected finish held in place for years rather than months
- A written warranty on the system, which at Detail 2 Drive is 8 years
Questions That Cut Through the Marketing
- 01What preparation and correction is included before the coating goes on
- 02Which surfaces are covered, paint only or wheels, glass and interior as well
- 03Where is the car while the coating cures
- 04What do the written warranty terms actually cover
