Ceramic Coating
Does Ceramic Coating Prevent Scratches
The short answer is no. The useful answer is what it does protect against instead.

No. A ceramic coating does not make paint scratch proof, and any quote that suggests otherwise should make you cautious about everything else in it.
What a coating does is add chemical resistance, UV resistance and a surface that is much easier to clean safely. Those are real benefits, and they are worth paying for. Scratch immunity is not on the list.
What a Coating Genuinely Protects Against
- Bird dropping and bug residue etching, provided it is removed reasonably promptly
- UV exposure and the fading that comes with it
- Chemical staining from road grime and traffic film
- Contamination bonding to the paint, which makes safe washing easier
What About the Hardness Ratings
Hardness figures printed on bottles describe a pencil hardness test on a cured film in a lab. They do not translate to how a panel behaves when a wash brush drags grit across it. Treat them as a marketing number rather than a performance promise.
Can a Coating Reduce Swirl Marks
Indirectly, and only because the car washes more easily. Most swirl marks come from washing technique, so a surface that releases dirt with less contact means less opportunity to put marks in. That is a maintenance benefit, not a hardness one.
What Actually Stops Stone Chips
Paint protection film, which is a thick urethane layer applied over the panels that take impact. Detail 2 Drive does not offer film, so if stone chips on the front bar are your main concern, that is a job for a film specialist rather than a coating.
It is worth saying plainly rather than selling you a coating for a problem it does not solve. A coating and a film do different jobs, and only one of them is about impact.
What About Car Park Scratches
Nothing prevents a trolley or a door. A coating may occasionally mean a very light contact mark polishes out of the coating rather than the clear coat, but that is a small consolation rather than a feature.
Can a Scratch Be Removed After Coating
Yes, but polishing removes the coating from the panel being worked, so it has to be reapplied there afterwards. That is worth knowing before you assume a scratch is a quick fix on a coated car.
Ask What the Product Is Designed to Do
Coating is the right answer for easier maintenance, chemical resistance and holding a corrected finish for years. If that is what you want, the tiers are on the ceramic coating page. Get a quote and say what you are actually trying to protect against.
